If you were injured in the workplace, getting compensation should be easy, but that isn’t always the case for injured workers. Injured workers often have difficulties obtaining the benefits they are entitled to for your financial damages.
Maryland Worker’s Compensation Laws
All Maryland employers who have one or more employees are required to have worker’s compensation insurance from an approved insurer. The state can impose a $10,000 fine on employers who don’t obtain worker’s compensation insurance. Employers are not allowed to take any portion of their worker’s compensation insurance premiums from their employees’ paychecks.
If your employer did not obtain or failed to maintain worker’s compensation insurance, you should contact:
State of Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission:
10 East Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21202-1641
Injured workers are required to report their injury immediately and then seek medical attention. Employees must see a doctor in their insurer’s network and must follow the doctor’s instructions. Otherwise, worker’s comp may allege your claim is invalid because you ignored orders from a medical professional.
When you file your worker’s compensation claim, it is critical that your fill out any necessary forms accurately and error-free. If you make a mistake, you may have to re-do your forms and your benefits will be delayed.
