Every day, someone is injured in a job-related accident in Connecticut. Some injuries may be relatively minor and may not require much treatment aside from an ice pack or bandage, but others are extremely severe and life-threatening. Serious accidents tend to involve workers in labor-type jobs and those who work with complicated and dangerous equipment or machinery. These are the types of work accidents that often have fatal consequences. Sadly, a recent incident in a Connecticut town resulted in the death of a worker.

According to news reports, an electrician was killed in a workplace accident in Connecticut. Police explain that the victim, who was working at a South Windsor amusement center, died on September 1 after being shocked while performing work on lighting fixtures. The workplace accident occurred at around 11:30 in the morning at Nomad’s Adventure Quest on Bidwell Road.

After being shocked, the victim fell from the platform he was working on – a platform that was five feet high. Police Lieutenant Scott Custer explained that the electrician was still holding onto a high voltage wire when he fell.

When paramedics arrived on the scene, they performed CPR on the workplace accident victim and rushed him to nearby Manchester Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. It is unclear whether it was the electric shock that killed him, the fall, or a combination of both.

The exact details of the accident remain unclear. At this point, we don’t know why exactly the victim was electrocuted. Perhaps he made a mistake, but perhaps, the accident was the result of faulty wiring. What we do know is that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the matter.

Usually, when OSHA gets involved, this means that there likely was some sort of safety negligence at the jobsite in question. If so, not only can the parties responsible for failing to provide a safe work environment get hit with expensive fines, but the victim’s family may also be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits.

The victim’s loved ones should consider speaking with a Connecticut workers’ compensation lawyer to discuss their rights and what kind of benefits they may be eligible to obtain. While workers’ comp can provide employees injured while on the job with benefits to cover medical costs and lost wages, dependents of workers who are killed while performing job-related duties may also qualify for assistance.

An experienced workers’ compensation attorney in Connecticut who knows and understands the laws specifically pertaining to dependents of a deceased worker can help ensure they obtain the full amount of compensation they deserve and will fight for their rights, especially in the event that the employer or their insurance company make an attempt to limit or deny the family their due benefits.
